COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an in-depth theological, exegetical, and pastoral study of the Gospel According to John. Emphasis is placed on Johannine Christology, soteriology, revelation, symbolism, and the Gospel’s stated purpose: fostering belief that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Students will engage the text at a seminary level through literary analysis, doctrinal synthesis, and ministry application.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Articulate the theological purpose and structure of John’s Gospel
2. Explain Johannine Christology and its implications for doctrine and ministry
3. Interpret major signs, discourses, and “I AM” statements
4. Analyze John’s presentation of belief, unbelief, and eternal life
5. Apply Johannine theology to preaching, counseling, and discipleship
6. Defend orthodox Christology against historical and contemporary errors
